About Melissa Moore

MELISSA AND HER BABY MINI, COCO

Trainers are brought into this business in a number of ways and while there are advantages to being the child of a professional trainer, being the daughter of two legends can be a tough road to follow. “Sometimes there is a lot of gossip because of being their (Tom and Donna Moore) daughter,” said Melissa. “It is like living in a fish bowl at times, but that is about the only part I don’t like. I realize and appreciate the opportunities I have had because of them. I don’t add pressure to myself to try and achieve all they have achieved or to emulate their abilities, there is no way to live up to what they have done in this industry. I just try to do the best I can do and be proud of my own achievements.”

Her successes in the show ring began at a young age. She made her debut at the age of six and by the age of twelve she had won her first World Championship. Throughout her Juvenile years (in the show world that is seventeen years of age and younger), she won Eight World Championship Titles. However, being a professional trainer was not something that Tom and Donna Moore wanted for their youngest daughter. So, after graduating a year early from High School, Melissa left the barn life and went to Brooks College were she graduated top of her class and received the award for “Outstanding Student”. Using her education and her desire to venture out, she opened a clothing store, spent time as a model and went into acting, all while finding opportunities to ride, especially on the West Coast. In between ventures she always found time to help her mom and dad at their respective facilities. The horses kept calling her back. “Eventually mom gave me the opportunity to help her at her farm, Belle Reve”, said Melissa. “ I realized this is what I want to do. It wasn’t what my mother wanted me to do, but it was what I wanted to do. I feel very fortunate to have had all the other experience in my life and am thankful that mom pushed me to do other things, but this is where I belong.”

Dedicated to perfecting her training and showing skills, Melissa has become well-known in the winner’s circle. Over her short career she has personally accumulated over fifty Worlds Championship or Reserve World Championship titles. She’s trained approximately twenty-five additional horses that have won World or National Championship titles for their owners.
